I know the feel of dust on my hair, body and even nostrils

I know the feel of mud stuck under my shoes and mud drizzles staining my white.

I know the feel of exhaust pipe burns on skin

I know the feel of eating mbonga not out of choice

I know the feel of crayfish rice when decimal days are at their worst

I know what it means to say garri has saved more lives after Christ

So please, when you see me offering myself a treat, mind your comments

 

I know the feel of trekking over miles to hear ABC

I know the feel of nights in candles to learn ABC

I know the feel of being driven out of class at mid-term cuz of currency

So please, if you see me celebrating myself, mind your comments

 

I know the feel of receiving 25frs/day and “fasting” to save 10frs for the next

I know the feel of how “Alaska” brings one joy under the sun

I know the feel of a true friend when one’s got 1/25 textbooks

I know the feel of waking up at 4a.m. to fry scotched eggs

I know the feel of sleeping past midnight because it’s been a tedious day

I know the feel of praying and hoping all sales will come out good

I know the feel of looking forward to Christmas with no new dress in view
