When the anointing of God upon the life of a Christian leaks out, that person loses the greatest gift he/she would ever have had.
Consider this: God tells a man to utterly destroy a nation. He goes, destroys the inhabitants, but spares the life of the king. He loots some of the choicest of sheep and cattle. He further returns and goes down to a place he’s not sent to, and sets up a monument in his name. As though not enough, he pretends to a servant of God, when questioned, that he has fully obeyed God’s command. When reminded of his sin, he instead justifies his sin, that he saved the choicest of cattle to offer sacrifice to God. He uses the idea of giving God a sacrifice, in a bid to bribe the Almighty God. On another side, another trusted person keeps the company of the enemy. (1 Samuel 15v 10-25 and Judges 16v19-20).
Like our friends above, we might:
Disobey God’s voice and instructions; Build a name for ourselves instead of God; Live a pretentious life, with two facades; Give justifications for our sins instead of repenting; Try to bribe God with sacrifices and offerings; Make unbelieving Delilah our friend.
If such is, then our oil is leaking, or has leaked out. Saul paid with the throne that was taken from him; Samuel lost his strength, ego, and his eyes were gouged out. But fear not, there is still a way out. Repent, as our friend did, and ask God to refill your oil (Judges 16v28). He is faithful and just, and if we sincerely ask, He’ll do it.
NB: OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE; REBELLION AGAINST GOD IS AS BAD AS WITCHCRAFT, AND ARROGANCE IS AS SINFUL AS IDOLATORY. (1 Sam 15v22-23).
